OUR MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURERS
The Petite Cartel is dedicated to promoting biodiversity through our material selections and place a high priority on getting materials from regenerative, organic, renewable, and recycled sources.
In order to achieve complete visibility of our materials and components back to source, we are attempting to trace our supply chain. We will not knowingly source fibres from endangered forests and environments under threat.
We are aware that there is no one size fits all fibre in terms of its impact on the environment and that each fibre has advantages and disadvantages. However, we make sure to consider the lifecycle of those materials as well as the sustainability of their manufacturing when evaluating the environmental impact of all the fabrics we use.
We do not use end of line fabrics/dead-stock, regenerative nylons and reprieve textiles as sustained use may encouraging prolonged production of micro plastic leaching textiles.
All our 'cut-offs' are used to create matching hair accessories, used for sampling wherever possible and donated/recycled wherever we can.
See below for more information about our materials.
In line with our commitment on responsibility and emissions we have chosen to manufacture close to home. All our development is done within 3 miles of our work space and our factory partner is located just 20 miles from base.
Manufacturing in the UK allows for greater transparency during the production process, supporting of jobs locally and a chance to closely monitor the production process for quality purposes. We're able to have greater control over our waste, environment impact and visual assessment of safe and fair working conditions.
Keeping production local ensures we are able to work with a manufacturer that reflects our own values.

We work with a British textile supplier who works directly with an Indian mill producing quality sustainably made organic cotton in an environment whereby staff are paid fairly, entitles to breaks and have overall safe working conditions. Workers also receive care and support to send their children to school for better education and opportunity.
OUR TEXTILES
OUR TRIMS
-
Our elastic is made by one of our trusted partners, who shares our commitment to conscious production. It's crafted from a blend of renewable raw materials, including natural organic rubber sourced from Malaysia that is both FSC certified and REACH compliant. The GOTS organic cotton that covers the elastic is responsibly sourced from Turkey. All this is done with care in Austria.
-
Our codelite buttons are a unique and conscious choice, made lovingly by our partners right here in the UK. Using a material once popular over 100 years ago, our buttons are crafted from milk casein, the natural protein found in milk.
Production of these buttons ended in the 1970s, but our partners have revived this British heritage industry by salvaging and restoring the very last remaining button-making machine. As a result, 96% of each finished button is made entirely of dairy milk. They are bio-degradable, traceable, and incredibly robust, ensuring your garment is finished with a button that is not only beautiful but supports a lost art.
-
Our shell buttons are an intentional choice, made from natural freshwater shells. Sourced responsibly from the Pacific basin, these shells are cultivated from farmed or unprotected species. With a beautiful, iridescent finish, the buttons are also naturally biodegradable.
These buttons are meticulously handcrafted and dyed in small batches by our partners in Sheffield, UK. This small, family-owned factory, established in 1940, has a rich history of adapting through the changing face of post-war British production. Today, it remains a testament to ingenuity and craftsmanship—a small but mighty giant still standing.
