WEAR MORE, WASH LESS
By properly maintaining your clothing, you may extend its lifespan, save natural resources, and prevent textile waste from ending up in landfills. You may prolong the life of your Petite Cartel piece by following some simple steps
How should I care for my Petite Cartel garment?
-
When possible, hang dry your clothes instead of throwing them in the dryer. This saves energy and prevents fibre degradation, preserving the integrity of your garments.
-
Washing in cold water is better for the environment and your clothes. This is especially important for swimwear, which should be washed in cold water after each use. Using cold water reduces colour fading while conserving energy.
-
If a garment is labelled "dry clean only," it is most likely because the fabric or construction will not withstand washing. We recommend deferring cleaning until absolutely necessary. When it comes to dry cleaning, go with a certified environmentally conscious dry cleaner who avoids the use of harmful chemicals like perchloroethylene "perc." Also, when you pick up, request that the plastic cover be removed.
-
Many of our natural fibres improve with age. To maintain the natural, easy look, avoid using an iron. Hang your garment in the bathroom while you shower to remove minor wrinkles. The steam produced is usually sufficient to smooth out most fabrics.
What are some ways to make my Petite Cartel garment last longer?
-
Every body is unique, and finding the right fit can be difficult. Use a local tailor to adjust your garment if necessary. Some of our strapped garments are designed for tailoring; we include extra length so that a strap can be adjusted and a 2 centimetres seam allowance to extent at your waist.
-
If you still like your piece but want to change it up, consider transforming it into something new. Cut a full-length dress in half or over-dye it for a new colour; the possibilities are endless.
-
There are some great marketplaces now that allow you to resell your previously owned pieces. Use these platforms rather than throwing away your previously loved items.
-
Minor damages are simple to repair at home. Replace lost buttons and repair broken straps with the extra piece provided on your care label. Repair yarn pulls by gently stretching the garment and carefully pulling the loose thread to the next stitch with a dull needle. If you need help repairing a minor issue seek a local tailor - you'll be surprised what wizardry they can manage.
What could you do with your Petite Cartel garment when you decide to let go of it?
-
We intend to implemented a future Petite Cartel garment take-back system to help us increase the longevity of our clothing. In future if you have an old Petite Cartel garment that you'd like to send back to us for responsible repair or recycling, we will provide an way in which to do this.
